One of the common links that binds the human race together is the phenomenon known as pain. It doesn’t matter if you go to Boston or Beijing, you won’t have to look very far to find suffering people. We all suffer in differing degrees, for various periods of time. The suffering condition of humanity can be directly traced to the fallen condition of this world we live in – built into it is what C.S. Lewis called,“The Problem of Pain”, in which he examines the question many have struggled with – “If God is good and all-powerful, why does he allow his creatures to suffer pain?”
Now the purpose of this blog is not to answer that question. I think Lewis does an amazing job of that and one day, when time allows, I plan on doing a full length series on it.
No, the purpose of why I’m writing today is to encourage somebody who may be suffering right now.
My beautiful bride, Melody, knows something about suffering. Over the last several years her severe asthma had progressively worsened to the point where it almost took her life. I’ve never seen anybody handle that kind of suffering with so much grace. When you can’t breathe, nothing else matters, and yet she still displayed deep love and selflessness to others in the midst of her suffering. As she held on to her relationship with Christ, I watched him carry her through.
Hence the reason for today’s blog. Melody wanted me to share the video below with you who are suffering right now. It has ministered to her in a profound way – especially when John Piper begins to speak at about three to four minutes into it.
Let me just say, I don’t know what you are going through but whatever it is, God is there and nothing is going to be wasted from it. God will use it, somehow – some way!
So that’s it. Just wanted to pass this on in the hopes that it will bring comfort, in some small way, to whatever you may be going through!
