Welcome to Fuel – Our new Thursday Night Bible Study. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Chris Papazis and I’m excited to be part of this. We are going to have an amazing time of digging into the Word and receiving from the Lord. We are calling this Fuel because this study is going to be specifically designed for filling up on and growing in the Word of God.
The Word, The Word, The Word! It’s all about the Word. The Word is our fuel to live for God.
Colossians 3:16 says “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
James 1:21 gives a two part prescription for consistent growth and breakthrough in our spiritual lives. It reads “Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.” Receive with meekness the implanted word. The Greek word for implanted, emphutos, gives the picture of the Word, as a seed being implanted into our hearts. As we receive it and let it have its course it will germinate, then it will spring up, then it will produce good, godly, eternal fruit.
So we are going to let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly. We are going to receive with meekness, the implanted word. And we are going to see consistent and continuous growth as we continually are being conformed into the image of Christ. As we receive the Word, The Word will do what only God’s Word can do, and that’s bear fruit in our lives. I don’t know about you, but that’s what I want. And we’re living in a day and an age where the world really needs to see the followers of Jesus Christ, acting and loving like Jesus Christ.
Now as we come to the book of Daniel, let me just say that we are entering a most thrilling book. One of the most amazing pieces of literature ever recorded.
But why study the book of Daniel?
Well, there are a lot of reasons to study Daniel, but one of the things I love about Daniel is what we can learn from him as a person. You know, the Bible talks about those who walk with the wise become wise themselves. And as we walk with Daniel and hang out with him over these next couple of months we are going to see wisdom in action. And in the process learn and grow in wisdom ourselves.
And the first thing we need to know about Daniel. If you’ve never studied the book of Daniel, you need to know that it is a book of prophecy. And not only is a book of prophecy – it is known as the Blueprint of prophecy. As a matter of fact, you can’t really understand God’s program for the future of this world, without having a grasp on the facts presented in Daniel. You can’t really understand the book of Revelation, until you have an understanding of Daniel.
Now before we dig in, just a quick word on prophecy. First off, what is prophecy? Very simply, Biblical prophecy is God telling man things that are going to happen ahead of time. Another way to think about it is that it’s history, written in advance. Bible scholars state that 20 to 30 percent of the Bible was predictive – was prophetic – when it was written. Much prophecy has already been fulfilled, but there is much more yet to be fulfilled. What’s both exciting and sobering is that you and I are living in a time where we can actually see the stage being set for the remainder of unfulfilled prophecies to come to pass. The ultimate culmination of prophecy – the ultimate end event of prophecy is what? The second coming of Jesus.
So one of the benefits of studying prophecy is that it gives us peace and comfort to know that in a world that seems crazy and out of control, God is in control. He has a plan, and we get to participate in that plan as world history heads toward his second coming.
How exciting and thrilling this study is going to be!
