Fuel – Thursday night Bible Study specifically designed for people to “fill up” on the Word of God

Key Scriptures

  • Colossians 3:16 – Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly….
  • James 1:21 – …receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls

  • Soil is our heart, the Word of God is the seed. As the seed is sown, or implanted in our hearts it will bring forth good, godly fruit

Book of Daniel

  • Blueprint of prophecy – Essential for understanding end times events
  • Prophecy – History written in advance
  • Daniel, like all prophecy, given for comfort, warning, and edification
  • Backdrop – Children of Israel are in captivity; Daniel and his friends are designated as future leaders and set apart to work in the court of King Nebuchadnezzar
  • Takes place in modern-day Iraq (approx. 53 miles south of Baghdad)

4 Division of Occultists that Nebuchadnezzar was surrounded by

  • Magicians – Name means “engraver” writer associated with the occult
    1. Specialized in divination and astrology as well as demonstration of occultic manifestations
    2. Commonly associated with Egypt
    3. Pharaoh couldn’t find any to interpret his dream so he called for Joseph
    4. Tried to stand toe to toe with Moses during the Exodus story, but as God’s miracles became more powerful and intense, the magicians couldn’t match Yahweh’s power.
    5. They couldn’t reproduce or reverse the plagues
  • Enchanters – a conjurer, an astrologer
    1. Enchanters use spells to enchant
    2. Conjure means to call upon or command a demon by invocation or spell
    3. Necromancers – communication with the dead
  • Sorcerers – Witchcraft
    1. Strictly forbidden for Israelites
    2. King Manasseh was heavily involved in this and was one of the nail’s in the coffin, so to speak, for judgment
    3. Associated with drug use
    4. Will be prevalent in the last days. Failure to repent of it brings stronger judgments
    5. Rev 9:21 “nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immoralities or their thefts”
  • Chaldeans – Babylonians
    1. Occultism was so widespread in Babylon that their name became synonymous with it
    2. Chaldeans were the advisors, consulted for wisdom
    3. Used astrology to give advice
    4. Possibly the leaders of the Babylonian wise men

Highlights of 2:1-19

  • Nebuchadnezzar has a disturbing dream
  • He calls for his advisors, who all specialize in different areas of the occult
  • He demands for them to tell him the dream and it’s interpretation
  • Because they cannot, he orders all of his advisors, including Daniel and his friends, to be executed
  • Daniel, using great wisdom, sets a time with King Nebuchadnezzar, to tell him the dream and its interpretation
  • Daniel goes right to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah and asks for prayer support
  • God reveals the dream to Daniel
